Departing from picturesque Antigua, you will explore Flores Island, the stunning Tikal National Park, hike to ancient Mayan jungle ruins, and immerse yourself in the Garifuna culture. Antigua to Flores.
You will be picked up at 9:00 am from your Antigua hotel. The private Guinness Travel minibus will take you for a six hour journey to Rio Dulce. Halfway there will be a stop in El Progreso, where you can stretch your legs, grab a drink or snack, and use the restroom. A delicious lunch will be served on the beautiful shore of Rio Dulce at an excellent restaurant. A final three hours drive will take you to Flores, a small colonial town on the shores of Lake Petén Itzá. You will arrive in Flores around 18:00 pm, just in time to enjoy a delicious dinner at the best restaurant in town as you watch the sun set over the lake.
Tour of Tikal National Park.
Enjoy a 7:00 am breakfast overlooking the lake from the comfort of your hotel terrace. At 8:00 am you will depart for the jungle, arriving at Tikal National Park around 9:00 am. Your guide will help you discover all the different wildlife inside the park, like Spider monkeys, Howler monkeys, Orange Breasted falcons, parrots, Toucans, and Jaguars. With your knowledgeable guide, you will explore all of the major points of Tikal; Complex Q, The Great Plaza, Temples I, II, III, IV, V, VI, Central Acropolis, The Window Palace, and Lost World. Lunch will be in El Remate, a small village full of unique wooden handicrafts. Then it’s back to Rio Dulce for the night. In the evening you will take a boat to a river restaurant that serves Guatemalan, Mexican, and Australian food.
Boat tour of Rio Dulce.
You will be served a traditional breakfast among the mangroves of Río Dulce. At 8:00 am a private boat will transport you to Castillo San Felipe, an ancient castle and fortress during the pirate activity of the seventeenth Century. After exploring this impressive castle, you will continue by boat to the Island of Birds inhabited by the beautiful Cormoran. Then it’s off to the hot springs to relax in hot water flowing from the banks of Rio Dulce. The boat journey continues to Siete Altares on the Caribbean side of Guatemala where you can hike around seven pools naturally made by turquoise water flowing from the mountains. Swim in the pools, leap from the waterfall, or simply relax and take it all in. By boat, you will go to Livingston to experience true Garifuna culture. Drink coconut water fresh from a coconut, get your hair braided by a local, or try a traditional plate of tapado, a seafood soup made with coconut milk and plantains. Explore the town before heading back to Antigua, arriving around 21:00 pm.
