Spend two days trekking and conquering one of Guatemala’s tallest and most active volcanoes!
You start the tour at the base of Acatenango Volcano at an altitude of 1,600 meters (5,250 feet) above sea level. The trek to base camp on the east side of the volcano will be six hours. Lunch will be provided mid way through the trek by your guide, who will also prepare a warm meal at camp for dinner.
Today, you’ll leave extra gear at camp and hike down to Horquilla, the basin between the two volcanoes. After a half hour climb uphill lasting one and a half hours, you will summit Fuego Volcano at a height of 3,763 meters (12,346 feet) above sea level. Enjoy the amazing panoramic views of Agua Volcano to the southeast, Lake Atitlan and Toliman, Atitlan and San Pedro Volcanoes to the northwest, and Acatenango Volcano to the north. After soaking up the scenery, you will hike back to camp to pick up your backpack before continuing to the base of Acatenango Volcano. Depending on the group, expect to spend approximately 12 hours in total hiking. You need to be physically fit for this hike, and note that the rapid change in elevation may affect your performance.
