This Short Inca Trail and Machu Picchu Trek cherishes the breathtaking views of the “Lost City of the Inca.” Follow the short Inca Trail and arrive by foot to Machu Picchu in just 2 days via the Sun Gate! Along the way, you’ll also visit the beautiful Inca site of Wiñay Wayna. You’ll enjoy the best of the best along this abbreviated trek.
2 Days/1 Night
Early in the morning, we will take a 4 hour scenic train ride to 2,680 m to the Inca site Wiñay Wayna (“Forever Young”) to begin our Short Inca Trail and Machu Picchu Trek. From here we’ll climb 50 m to Inti Punku (“Sungate”) to catch a first look at the dramatic, panoramic view of Machu Picchu (2,400 m). To finish the day, we’ll walk on the outskirts of Machu Picchu down to Aguas Calientes.
Difficulty level: Moderate-ascent to Winay Wayna and Inti Punku and then a descent to Machu Picchu and Aguas Calientes.

Lunch on the trek. Dinner in Aguas Calientes where we will spend the night.

Despite being a shortened version of the Inca Trail, you’ll be able to see the highlights.
We’ll depart at 5:00 am to take a bus to Machu Picchu where we will take a 2 hour guided walking tour. You also have the option to partake in a 45 minute climb to the top of Huayna Picchu (2,720 m).

Meals & Accommodations:
Breakfast in the hotel in Aguas Calientes. Lunch in Aguas Calientes. You will be back in Cusco in the evening where . you will be responsible for your own accommodation.
Your guide will give you your train tickets. The train usually leaves about 2:55 pm and arrives back in Cusco at 7:45 pm although this is subject to change. Alternatively, you can stay for an extra night in Aguas Calientes to visit the thermal springs and to explore Machu Picchu.

Be sure to have flexible dates (+/- 3 days) in mind to book the Inca Trail.
Permits for the Inca Trail must be requested to the National Sanctuary of Machupicchu Administration, and are only necessary for the day you start.
Only 500 people per day are allowed to enter all of the Inca Trail’s routes. While we cannot guarantee availability on the Inca trail, we can assist you in finding alternatives.
The train included in all tours is the Cerrojo backpacker. Train times will only be confirmed once the tour is paid in full. During the high season (June to September), the earliest train you could take is the 1:37 pm and the last train is at 9:20 pm. Train times are subject to change depending on Peru rail time table and availability. If organized in advance, the train can be upgraded to Vistadome (larger windows) for an additional cost. Additionally, we will organize the transport back to Cusco (by taxi or by bus).
