5 Days/ 4 Nights
We will leave Ollantaytambo by private transport at 5:00 am and drive approximately 4 hours to Mollepatato to begin our Salkantay Trekking Expedition. In Mollepata we will have a short break to stretch our legs, meet our mule men as well have a last chance to buy any more goodies you would like for the trail. We will then continue on, in a truck to Cruzpata. We will start out trek from here, we will continue along the road by foot approximately 4-5 hours to Soraypampa. Here is our first nights camp. Located at 3800masl, with breath taking views of both Glaciers, Salcantay and Huamantay.
We will start the day with a nice, hot and hardy breakfast around 6:30 am. After one last hot coffee or tea, we will start our accent to the pass. This should take us around 3-4 hours to arrive at Abra Salkantay(4,620m). After a refreshing rest in the Abra, we will begin our long decent to camp. Stopping along the way for a delicious box lunch at one of the many beautiful picnic spots. The descent will take us through three noticeable different climate zones. From the pass it will be around 3-4 hours to arrive at out camp Chaullay (2,900m). This will be the most strenuous day of the trip.
Today we will wake to the sounds of the local roosters well before breakfast. After enjoying breakfast we will start the day with a short walk along the road till we reach the trail head where we cross the river and begin a beautiful 5 hour walk along the river. All the while descending deeper into the jungle. Upon reaching the Playa (2,100m) you will have the option of hiring a car or continuing along the road on foot for 3 hours to St. Teresa. We will spend the afternoon relaxing in St. Teresa and once the sun goes down we can enjoy the evening in the Cocalmayo hot springs.
Today is full of options and possibilities. The choices include a zip-line, tours of coffee plantations and botanical gardens, or a simple leisurely day. After breakfast, we will go on your chosen adventure or take a car to the hydro-electric plant. From here we start a beautiful 2.5 hour stroll along the train tracks in the valley below Machu Picchu to arrive at Aguas Calientes for the last night before Machu Picchu.
At long last, you arrive the fabled city of Machu Picchu. Enjoy yourself!
