Your tour will begin at 7:00 am with hotel pick-up and transfer to Chincheros. Here, you’ll explore the living community, steeped in history and influence from both Inca and colonial rule. See megalithic carvings dating back to hunter-gatherers, Inca ruins and terraces, and an adobe church built over the frame of an Inca temple.
From Chincheros, travel to Maras and Moray, where you’ll encounter terraced salt ponds stretching over the hills and valleys. Still in-use today, these ponds date back over 1,000 years. Explore the Moray archaeological site — perfect circular terraces carved over 300 feet (100 meters) into the hillside.
Stop in Ollantaytamo, considered a living Inca archaeological site. The small mountain town was an Inca stronghold during Spanish conquest, and is still home to locals who live and thrive within and around the archaeological site. It is home to well-preserved ruins and a water temple.
Travel through the Sacred Valley for 25 minutes toward Urumamba, where you’ll stop for lunch at a locally-owned restaurant before traveling onward to Pisac. The ruins sit on top of a hill overlooking the valley. They include scientific, religious, and day-to-day structures, demonstrating the technological, cultural, and social sophistication of the massive empire. Here, you’ll explore the Temple of the Sun, public baths, ceremonial alters, and aqueducts and water fountains.
After exploring Pisac, you’ll return to the private car for the 45 minute drive back to your hotel in Cusco.
