Day 1: Arrival to Cusco – City Sightseeing Tour
Upon arrival, you will be taken to your Cusco Hotel and welcomed with coca infusion tea (“mate de coca”) that will help you to get used to the altitude. Then you’ll have a free morning to take a leisurely walk around the ancient capital of the Incas or to acclimate to the high altitude setting.
After lunch, you’ll head out at 1:30 pm for a tour of Cusco including the Cathedral, Koricancha, Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Pucapucara and Tambomachay. The tour will begin on to the Main Square of Cusco. Next, you’ll enter the Cusco Cathedral to see the beautiful woodwork and colonial paintings containing extensive Incan iconography. Then, you’ll visit the Korikancha (Temple of the Sun) where the Santo Domingo Convent was built. Legend says this temple was completely gold coated, which impressed the conquerors upon their arrival.
Afterwards, you’ll visit the Cuidadela, the royal house of admiration for the Sun god. While you’re there, you’ll also have time to enjoy the peaceful landscape. Then, you’ll visit the old temple of the Puma at Qenqo where you can see a giant stone altar once used for sacrifices. At Tambomachay, you’ll see the sacred fountains of life and health. Pucapucara safeguarded the city gates and the Fortress of Sacsayhuaman. You’ll end the day with a carefully planned visit of the city of Cusco.

After breakfast, you will be picked up from the hotel at 8:30 am for your full day tour to the impressive countryside scenery of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. First, you will visit the town of Pisac, famous for its bustling market and old “exchange transactions.” In this type of transaction, customers would exchange one good for another instead of using currency. Here you’ll be able to buy beautifully hand-crafted products.
On Sunday, the main attraction is a mass celebrated in Quechua and conducted in Spanish. It is attended by the mayors and their attendants who play traditional musical instruments called “pututos.” Afterwards, you’ll enjoy a typical Peruvian lunch (included in price) before visiting the fortress of Ollantaytambo.
Next, you will visit the impressive ruins of Ollantaytambo fortress. These magnificent ancient ruins serve as great vantage points to look out over the valley. Originally the royal estate of Emperor Pachakuteq during the Inca Empire, this site later served as a stronghold for Manco Inca Yupanqui in the Inca’s final rebellion against the Spanish. In the afternoon back to Cusco – Overnight at Cusco Hotel.

After breakfast, a representative will pick you up from your Cusco Hotel and bring you to the Poroy railway station to enjoy a 3 ½ hour scenic rail tour to Aguas Calientes.
The train will take us to km 104 to start the hike. The first stop will be a visit to the Chachabamba archaeological site before heading out on a 4 hour (8 km) uphill hike to the archaeological site of Wiñay Wayna. This is an impressive site made up of an agricultural center with numerous terraces, a religious sector, and an urban sector.then Later you’ll go on to climb to the Sun Gate to take in awesome views. Then you’ll take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes and enjoy a lovely dinner in a local restaurant.

Additionally, you’ll have the chance to take an hour walk up to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) or climb to the top of Wayna Picchu which offers an incredible view of the whole sanctuary. You’ll head back to Cusco by train in the afternoon.
