Itinerary

Day 1 – Drive Past Incredible Views on the Way from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado
We will pick you up in Cusco and take you in our minivan to Puerto Maldonado, observing scenic views and plenty of llamas and alpacas along the way. You will drive through a huge pass, which marks the beginning of the Amazon jungle.

On the way, you will have a boxed lunch with amazing views of lovely waterfalls. Then, you will continue driving through the jungle, with some stops for photos and a dip in a stream, if you like. By nighttime, about 19:00 pm, you will arrive to the city lodge in Puerto Maldonado and enjoy dinner.

Day 2 – Welcome to the Jungle! Explore Monkey Island and Observe Alligators on the Riverbanks
You will first go to the river port to take a motorboat straight to a jungle lodge. Once you get there, you will have breakfast and put your belongings in your bungalow. The rooms have single and double options. Then, you will start on the first of your Puerto Maldonado jungle tours.

After lunch back at the lodge, you will take a 30-minute motorboat ride to Monkey Island. You can see a variety of monkeys here. As the sun starts to set, you will head back to the lodge, stopping for an hour along the way to observe native caimans or alligators. At the lodge, you will have dinner and go to sleep for the night.

Day 3 – Go on a Canoe Ride on Sandoval Lake and See Nocturnal Jungle Animals near the Lodge
After breakfast, you will go by motorboat on the river for 30 minutes to Tambopata National Reserve. You will walk for 2 hours in this lively national park to Sandoval Lake. You can admire the scenery there by wooden canoe. Wildlife in the area include monkeys, otters, wild geese, and alligators. Peru has the most diversity of butterflies in the world. There are 3,700 known butterfly species in Peru.

Next, you will go back to the lodge for lunch and enjoy free time in the afternoon in the lodge. Before dinner, you will have another of your Puerto Maldonado jungle tours as you walk close to the lodge. On this night jungle walk, you will learn about and look for nocturnal animals. Finally, you will have dinner.

Day 4 – Find Parrots on a Riverbank Clay Lick and Return to Puerto Maldonado
Today has an early wake-up to enjoy the daybreak in a boat on the river. Before breakfast, you will ride the boat to see a parrot clay lick. Macaws and parrots of all sizes come to the riverbanks to lick the clay found on cliff sides. This clay has minerals that helps the birds get rid of toxins they get from eating unripe seeds. Enjoy the beautiful colors of the parrots and the sunrise for an hour.

Then, you will go back to the lodge for a delicious breakfast. Finally, your Puerto Maldonado jungle tours will come to an end as you take a motorboat back to Puerto Maldonado. From there, you can make your way back to Cusco by bus or airplane (not included).
