Day 0: Meet your Guides
Today, meet your guides at their Cusco-based office or at your hotel to receive an overview of your Lares Biking Tour, to check out the quality of your bike and other gear, and to familiarize yourself with the equipment.
Day 1: Ride from the Scenic Mountains to Lares Valley
Your Lares Valley Bike Tour begins with early morning hotel pick-up in Cusco, then private transfer by car into the Lares Mountains, between Cusco and Lares Valley. From Cusco, you’ll travel 3 hours, mostly up-hill to reach the starting point of your bike trip — at 14,665 feet (4470 meters)!
Upon arrival, your guide will get you outfitted for your bike and provide you with a safety and riding demonstration, protective gear, and size adjustments.
From the starting point, you’ll ride your bike purely downhill for 21 miles (35 kilometers) along absolutely spectacular scenic roads. Along the ride, you’ll pass remote mountain communities, grazing llamas and alpacas, and countless picturesque overlooks.
You’ll stop for lunch at Pampa Corral, a small Inca community, before hopping on your bike again to continue on into the Inca Sacred Valley. To end the day, you’ll arrive in an Andean village known as Lares located at 10,500 feet (3200 meters). Here, you’ll set up camp along grassy terraced landscapes. In the evening, you’ll have the opportunity to take a short hike to naturally occurring hot-springs nearby, and soothe your muscles the steaming, mineral-rich waters!
Day 2: Ride along the Inca Trail to the Sacred Valley
Begin your day 2 of your Lares Biking Tour at 6:00 am with breakfast and elevation-soothing coca tea before setting out for second day of cycling. From Lares, you’ll continue cycling downhill further into the Inca Sacred Valley. Today, you’ll experience the best riding of your trip, with spectacular views of Andes Mountains stretching across the horizon. Riders can choose between unpaved roads or a narrow “single track” trail known locally as the Inca Trail.
Today, you’ll pass small country villages, make steep descents, and encounter rapid ecosystem and micro-climate shifts from high mountains, to midlands, to warm, dense forests. You’ll stop along the ride for lunch, a rest, and a relaxing look at the spectacular landscape around you.
Upon arrival to the base of the valley, your car will take you back to your hotel in Cusco. If you’d like, you’ll have the opportunity to make a stop in-route to Cusco to bike along the Saqsaywaman Inca archaeological site!
