On this Peru Destinations tour, you will get to see a experience a variety of Peruvian landscapes, from the Lake Titicaca highlands to the mountains of Cusco to the lush jungle near Puerto Maldonado. Peru has astounding cultural and ecological diversity.

Day 1 – Arrive to Lima and Take Part in Optional Sightseeing
Your Peru Destinations tour begins as you are picked up at the Lima international airport and taken to your hotel. For the rest of the day, you can go on optional sightseeing excursions. You will spend the night in Lima.
Day 2 – Fly from Lima to Juliaca and Enjoy Free Time in Puno by Lake Titicaca
In the morning, you will be dropped off at the Lima airport to fly to Juliaca, a city near Puno in the southeast of Peru. You will be picked up at the Juliaca airport and taken to your hotel in Puno (12,550 feet/3,800 meters). In this city by the shores of Lake Titicaca, you will have the remaining hours of the day to acclimatize and go on optional sightseeing visits. One of your first Peru destinations, Lake Titicaca, is the highest navigable lake in the world! (B)
Day 3 – Navigate Lake Titicaca, Visit the Islands of Uros and Amantani, Stay with Local People
After a nice breakfast, you will take a boat to the Uros Floating Reed Islands. From there, you will go on a two-hour cruise to Amantani Island. There, you will stay the night in the homes of local people. You will be able to experience the daily life and traditions of the Lake Titicaca people. Later in the afternoon, you will go to the highest point on the island to take in a stunning sunset over Lake Titicaca. If there are no clouds, you can see the Cordillera Real mountains of Bolivia in the distance. (B/L/D)
Day 4 – Visit the Island Community of Taquile and Cruise Back to Puno
The morning starts with a traditional breakfast. After saying goodbye to your local hosts, you will go on a 90-minute lake cruise to the nearby Taquile Island. The people who live on this island still practice many Inca customs and laws. There, you can explore the island community and visit the handicraft center. You will also eat a local lunch. Afterward, you will return by boat to Puno. You will arrive to lakeside city in the afternoon and be dropped off at your hotel. (B/L)
Day 5 – Take a Scenic Bus Ride to Cusco, Stopping by a Church and an Ancient Temple on the Way
From Puno, your Peru Destinations Tour continues with a full-day bus ride to Cusco, passing by beautiful Andean highland plains. Cusco (10,900 feet/3,300 meters) used to be the capital of the Incas. Along the way, you will enjoy lunch and stop by various points of interest. You will visit a lovely colonial church in the pretty town of Andahuaylillas. Additionally, you will see an ancient temple at Raqchi dedicated to the Inca god of creation. When you get to Cusco, you will check in to your hotel and have time to settle in. (B/L)
Day 6 – Enjoy a Free Day in Cusco to Do Whatever You Please
You will be able to go on optional sightseeing excursions, go shopping, rest, or stroll on the lovely streets of Cusco. This is where you will spend the night. (B)
Day 7 – Learn about Inca Culture on Visits to Pisaq and Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley
Early in the morning, your Peru Destinations Tour continues as you take a bus to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. On the way, you will stop by a museum and weaving center. There, you will learn about how local weavers make textiles by shearing, spinning, and dyeing with plant extracts, then weaving the threads.
Next, you will get to visit the lovely colonial town and ancient ruins of Pisaq. This town has a busy local market and is located at the base of a mountain. Further up on the mountain is an Inca fort/temple. You can explore both the town and the ruins before enjoying a picnic with scenic vistas of the Sacred Valley. After lunch, you will wander in the lively handicraft market.
In the afternoon, you will travel to Ollantaytambo. This village is home to more majestic Inca ruins, along with descendants of the Incas who still live in houses built by their ancestors. You will stay the night in this town which is often called a “living museum”. (B/L)
Day 8 – Tour and Explore Legendary Machu Picchu
After a delicious breakfast, you will make your way by train to Aguas Calientes through the magnificent Urubamba Gorge. Aguas Calientes is a town below Machu Picchu. The train ride takes about two hours, going beside the Urubamba River and going down into thick tropical jungle.
After you get to Aguas Calientes, you will drive up to Machu Picchu. This “Lost City of the Incas” is the one of the most well-known and iconic Peru destinations, and for good reason! Your expert guide will teach you about the Inca Empire and the importance of this archaeological site.
After following and learning from your guide, you will have plenty of time to explore the ruins independently. In the afternoon, you will descend by bus back to Aguas Calientes. There, you can soak in the natural hot springs before dinner. You will spend the night in an Aguas Calientes hotel. (B)
Day 9 – Explore Machu Picchu On Your Own and Take the Train to Cusco
On this day, you can go back to the ruins of Machu Picchu to continue exploring or go hiking. In the afternoon, you will take the train back to Cusco and be dropped off at your hotel. (B)
Day 10 – Fly to Puerto Maldonado and Navigate a Jungle River to Posada Amazonas
In the morning, you will be dropped off at the Cusco airport to take a 30-minute flight to one of your next Peru destinations: Puerto Maldonado. There, you will be picked up at the airport and dropped off at the river port. Next, you will embark on a boat trip to Posada Amazonas, a rainforest lodge. From the boat, you could see native bird species.
When you get to Posada Amazonas, you will get a briefing on the lodge and the Eseja Ecotourism Project. If there is time in the afternoon, you will go into the forest to visit a local farm. After dinner, you will watch a video about Tambopata to learn more about the forest. (B/L/D)
Day 11 – Go on a Lake Canoe Ride and Gaze at the Rainforest Canopy from an Observation Tower
You will rise with the sun to be ready for a trip to Tres Chimbadas oxbow lake. You will take a canoe around the lake for a while, looking for giant river otters, hoatzins, turtles, and wading birds. Lunch will be at the lodge.
In the afternoon, you will go on a short hike to a strategically-placed 114-foot (35-meter) observation tower. You can access the tower on a secure stairway that has a railing. Look over the jungle canopy. (B/L/D)
Day 12 – Visit a Parrot Clay Lick and a Community Center to Learn about Local Culture
In the morning, you will have an early breakfast and go to a small parrot clay lick. You can get quite close to the birds and take photos, thanks to the blind that was constructed next to the clay lick wall. Colorful small parrots and parakeets gather on the wall to lick the clay. Dozens up to hundreds of birds go there on days without clouds.
After lunch, you will learn about local culture at a community ethno-botanic center. In the evening, you will go back to Posada Amazonas for dinner. (B/L/D)
Day 13 – Take a Boat to Puerto Maldonado and Fly to Lima
After breakfast early in the morning, you will take a boat back to Puerto Maldonado. Then, to finish off your Peru Destinations Tour, you will be dropped off at the airport and fly to Lima. (B)
