Peru Amazon Tours: Discover southern Peru’s Inca ruins, highland scenery and lush Amazon rainforest. Explore Lima’s historic center, fish in the Amazon river, and walk through  the rainforest. Hike the challenging Inca Trail to the Lost City of the Incas and wander Cusco’s streets. Learn about local culture by visiting the Sacred Valley of the Incas, and explore Peru’s mixture of colonial and Inca architecture.


12 Days/11 Nights


Day 1: International Arrival in Lima

You will have transportation assistance from Lima the International airport to your hotel. Once you are settled in, you will be briefed on your tour as well as the vouchers that will cover all services during your first, of hopefully many, Peru Amazon tours.

Day 2: Flight to Puerto Maldonado / Tambopata Lodge

After breakfast at the hotel, transportation will be provided for you to the Lima airport to catch your flight to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival, staff will help you get settled in. Later,  you’ll take a drive along a dirt road to the the port town of Infierno. Here, you will board a boat and head down the Tambopata River to the lodge inside the buffer zone of the Tambopata Candamo and the Bahuaja Sonene National Park.

In the afternoon, the guide will lead you on a walk to observe the flora and fauna near the lodge. You will see magnificent flora such as cañabravales, cecropias, and ficus. You will also have the chance to see diverse kinds of birds such as weaving birds, garzas, macaws, parrots, and toucans.

You’ll return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 3: Colpa La Torre / Native Community Farm / Tres Chimbadas Oxbow Lake

After breakfast at the lodge, you’ll catch an early morning boat to a nearby clay lick where you will have the chance to see deer, capybara and squirrels. Once there, you will head to an awesome observation look-out approximately 30 meters from the clay wall to watch for any activity.

Then, in another highlight of Peru Amazon tours, you’ll visit a Native Community Farm where local people still practice traditional methods of farming. Here, a local farmer will teach you about farming as well as various exotic Amazonian fruits and medicinal plants. You’ll enjoy lunch back at the lodge before heading downriver to the Tres Chimbadas Lake.

On the lake you will board a traditional catamarán and observe some of the area’s diverse wildlife. The lake is home to a family of endangered Giant River Otters as well as various birds, reptiles, and mammals. You may even get the chance to see the famous Piraña fish during a traditional fishing demonstration.

Day 4: Tambopata / Cocococha Lake

You’ll have breakfast at the lodge before starting the day at the Tambopata National Reserve. The lake here is an important habitat for numerous species. Besides its beautiful landscape and grand diversity, the lake provides valuable food sources and nurtures the reproduction of several endangered species that are emblematic to the Amazon.

As the sun sets, you’ll head out on a guided tour to observe the night sky and the activities of the area’s wildlife.

Day 5: Departure to Cusco from the Jungle

After breakfast, you’ll make a quick stop at the Puerto Maldonado office before heading off to the airport where your guide will assist you with your flight to Cusco. When you arrive to Cusco, transportation will be provided and you will have a free day to acclimate. With all of the action on Peru Amazon tours, you will most certainly welcome the chance to catch your breath.

Day 6: Cusco Sightseeing Tour

After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll have the morning to relax.

You will be picked up from the hotel at 1:30 pm to tour the Koricancha Temple of Sun, a very important Inca shrine. Later, you’ll visit the impressive Cathedral in the main square. Our tour continues in Sacsayhuaman on a hill that looms over the city. Then, you’ll visit Qenqo, a singular limestone outcrop used for religious purposes. Finally, the tour ends with a visit to Puca Pucara and Tambomachay.

Day 7: Cusco / Sacred Valley of the Incas

After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll have a full day visit to the impressive Sacred Valley of the Incas as well as the Pisaq and Ollantaytambo archaeological sites. First, you’ll stop at the village of Qorao to take pictures of the gorgeous landscapes. Then you’ll head to Pisaq, an archaeological site and Indian market.

After lunch in the Sacred Valley, you’ll visit the Inca Fortress of Ollantaytambo that once protected the entrance to this part of the Valley from possible invasion from the other tribes. In the afternoon, you’ll head back to Cusco.

Day 8: Cusco / Km 82 / Wayllabamba

After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll hit the road to the Classic Inca Trail. After crossing a bridge over the Urubamba River, you’ll walk along the river along a flat terrain to lookout at Miskay where youi will have an impressive view of the Inca city of Llactapata. Later,  you’ll continue trekking in the Kusichaca River valley, gradually climbing for about five hours until you reach our first campsite in the community of Wayllabamba.

Maximum altitude point: 3,000 m (9,840 ft)

Day 9: Wayllabamba / Pacaymayu

After an early morning breakfast, you’ll embark on the most difficult parts of Peru Amazon tours: a steep ascending trek spanning 9 km. On the way to the first mountain pass, the Abra Warmihuañusca (“Dead Woman’s Pass”), you will have the chance to see some llamas and alpacas grazing on a high altitude plant called ichu. You will also pass through the cloud forest which is home to the Andean bear and many different kinds of birds. It is recommended that you carry plenty of candies, chocolates and coca leaves to keep your sugar level high and help with altitude sickness. Later, you’ll head down into the Pacaymayu valley to set up camp.

Day 10: Pacaymayu / Wiñay Wayna

After breakfast, you’ll head up to the small Inca site of Runkuracay. As we reach the second pass, the beautiful snowy peaks of the Pumasillo range will greet us. Later, you’ll pass Yanacocha and the cloud forest on our way to Sayacmarca. This beautiful semicircular construction has multi-leveled enclosures, narrow streets, fountains, patios and irrigation canals.

Then, you’ll easily climb to the third pass at Abra Phuyupatamarca. Finally the day’s trek will take you down the long stone steps to Wiñaywayna, an impressive Inca agricultural center with several terraces and both religious and urban sectors.

Day 11: Wiñay wayna / Machu Picchu

You’ll start the day bright and early at 4:00 am. Then, you’ll go on an hour climb to the top of the Inti Punku (Sun Gate). From this fabulous spot, you will have the chance to see the sunrise over the sacred citadel of Machu Picchu as you arrive to one of the most popular parts of Peru Amazon tours. From here you’ll descend into Machu Picchu, entering through the “House of the Guardians.”

You’ll register and drop your backpack at the control point. Immediately afterwards, you will start a 2 hour guided tour of the Inca citadel. Later, you’ll have free time to walk around and explore the rest of the grounds. In the afternoon, you will meet up with the rest of the group in the nearby town of Aguas Calientes to catch the train back to Cusco.

Day 12: Depart Cusco / Lima International Departure

After breakfast at the hotel, you will be taken to the airport to catch your flight back to Lima on your way home from one of the amazing Peru Amazon tours.
