Itinerary

Day 1: International Arrival in Lima

Your transportation will be set up for you from Lima International airport to your hotel upon arrival. Once at the hotel, you will be provided with more detailed information about the Lake Titicaca Peru tour and its included service vouches.

Day 2: Lima Sightseeing Tour

You’ll have the morning to relax and rest up for the amazing Lake Titicaca Peru trip ahead.

After lunch on your own, you will be picked up from the Hotel at 1:00 pm for a guided tour to the “City of Kings.” This excursion shows you the best of Lima through pre-Hispanic, colonial and contemporary times.

Day 3: Flight to Puerto Maldonado / Tambopata Lodge

After breakfast at the hotel, you will be transported to the Lima airport to catch your flight to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival, staff will help you get settled in. Later, you’ll drive along a dirt road to the the port town of Infierno. Here, you will board a boat and head down the Tambopata River to our lodge inside the buffer zone of the Tambopata Candamo and the Bahuaja Sonene National Park.

In the afternoon, the guide will lead you on a walk to observe the flora and fauna near the lodge. You will see magnificent flora such as cañabravales, cecropias, and ficus. You will also have the chance to see diverse kinds of birds such as weaving birds, garzas, macaws, parrots, and toucans.

You’ll return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 4: Colpa La Torre / Native Community Farm / Tres Chimbadas Oxbow Lake

After breakfast at the lodge, you’ll catch an early morning boat to a nearby clay lick where you will have the chance to see deer, capybara and squirrels. Once there, you will head to an awesome observation look-out approximately 30 meters from the clay wall to watch for any activity.

Then, you’ll visit the Native Community Farm where local people still practice traditional methods of farming. Here, a local farmer will teach you about farming as well as various exotic Amazonian fruits and medicinal plants. You’ll enjoy lunch back at the lodge before heading downriver to the Tres Chimbadas Lake.

On the lake you will board a traditional catamarán and observe some of the area’s diverse wildlife. The lake is home to a family of endangered Giant River Otters as well as various birds, reptiles, and mammals. You may even get the chance to see the famous Piraña fish during a traditional fishing demonstration.

Day 5: Departure to Cusco from the Jungle

After breakfast, the group will make a quick stop at the Puerto Maldonado office before heading off to the airport where your guide will assist you with your flight to Cusco. When you arrive to Cusco, transportation will be provided and you will have a free day to acclimate.

Day 6: Cusco Sightseeing Tour

After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll have the morning to relax.

You’ll leave the hotel at 1:30 pm to tour the Koricancha Temple of Sun, a very important Inca shrine. Later, you’ll visit the impressive Cathedral in the main square. Our tour continues in Sacsayhuaman on a hill that looms over the city. Then, you’ll visit Qenqo, a singular limestone outcrop used for religious purposes. Finally, the tour ends with a visit to Puca Pucara and Tambomachay.

Day 7: Cusco / Sacred Valley of the Incas

After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll have a full day visit to the impressive Sacred Valley of the Incas as well as the Pisaq and Ollantaytambo archaeological sites. First, you’ll stop at the village of Qorao to take pictures of the gorgeous landscapes. Then you’ll head to Pisaq, an archaeological site and Indian market.

After lunch in the Sacred Valley, visit the Inca Fortress of Ollantaytambo that once protected the entrance to this part of the Valley from possible invasion from the other tribes. In the afternoon, you’ll head back to Cusco.

Day 8: Machu Picchu / Back to Cusco                          
You’ll have breakfast at the hotel before a full day excursion to Machu Picchu where you will embark on a guided tour that features all the main attractions. You’ll visit the Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Sun Dial, the Royal Quarters, and the Temple of the Three Windows as well as houses, warehouses, and a large central square connected by narrow roads and steps and surrounded by terraces cut into the mountain side. After the tour, you’ll have time to explore at your own pace.

Additionally, you’ll have the chance to take an hour walk up to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) or climb to the top of Wayna Picchu which offers an incredible view of the whole sanctuary. You’ll head back to Cusco by train in the afternoon.

Day 9: Bus to Puno

You’ll have breakfast at the hotel before taking a scenic bus ride to Puno for the next adventure. Along the way, you’ll stop to visit several archaeological sites as well as the famous “Sixteen Chapel” in the village of Andahuaylillas that dates back to the 17th century. You’ll have lunch in Sicuani and spend the night at Puno Hotel.

Day 10: Lake Titicaca / Uros Floating Island and Overnight in Amantani

After, breakfast, you’ll be picked up from the hotel for a two-hour motor boat excursion on the waters of Lake Titicaca Peru to the unique Floating Islands of the Uros. These ancient inhabitants of the lake, known as the Water Tribe, have built their own “islands” by periodically adding new layers of a type of reed unique to the area called “Totora.” Their homes and boats are also made from this material.

Later, the motor boat trip will continue on to Amantani Island. This island is inhabited by Quechua-speaking natives still governed by their ancient traditions and who specialize in the production of ceramics and textiles. You’ll grab lunch with the group in Amantani before heading out to an overnight homestay with a local family.

Day 11: Lake Titicaca / Taquile Island

You’ll have breakfast with the family at your homestay on Lake Titicaca Peru tour. Then, you’ll have time to stroll at leisure through the quaint streets of this colorful island.

Late morning, you’ll take a motorboat to Taquile Island which is inhabited by Quechua-speaking natives who have developed efficient and unique social systems, as well as fine hand-weaving techniques through time. To get to the town of Taquile, it is necessary to go up a stairway of more than 567 steps. After lunch, you’ll walk through the various hills and archaeological sites of this 6 km long island before returning to Puno.

Day 12: Depart Cusco / Lima International departure

After breakfast at the hotel on the last day of the Lake Titicaca Peru and Amazon Basin tour, you will be transported to the airport to catch your flight back to Lima on your way home.
