On this Amazon Cultural Experience Tour, you will be able to experience the natural beauty of the Amazon as well as the culture of its people. You will start in Lamas Peru, the ancient capital city of the province where the locals still practice the customs of their ancestors. You will continue your cultural immersion as you learn handicrafts from local indigenous women from the community of Chiricyacu. The jungle of this region has two beautiful waterfalls you will get to see: Toroyacu and Chapawanki. Relax in San Roque de Cumbaza next to the river.

Day 1 – Arrive to Lamas and Get to Know the Town’s Culture at a Museum
After arriving to your hotel “Casa La Sangapilla” in the village of Lamas Peru, you will enjoy a welcome drink. Then, you will go on a 30-minute walk or take a taxi to the “Castle of Lamas.” You will go on a short walk in the Wayku neighborhood and visit a craft center called “Waska Waska Warmi Wasi.” There, you can buy artisan crafts.
After lunch in Lamas Peru, you will visit the Chanka Museum, where you will learn about the culture of the Quechua El Wayku community. The art gallery includes information about local customs and festivals and traditional and how the culture views the universe. You can also see ceramics, textiles, plants, antiques, and a photo exhibition of old Lamas. Finally, you will enjoy a delicious dinner made with organic vegetables from the hotel’s garden. After dinner, you will rest in the hotel for the night.
Day 2 – Admire Chapawanki Waterfall and Take an Artisan Course in the Chiricyacu Community
After a lovely breakfast at the hotel, you will go on a short 20-minute walk to Chapawanki Waterfall. Then, you’ll drive for 45 minutes to the Chiricyacu community, where you will enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, you can take courses with local indigenous artisans about chumbe or basket weaving. In the evening, you will have a dinner made from locally harvested foods. At night, you will stay in a local hostel called “Valencia Wasi.”
Day 3 – Swim and Camp at Toroyacu Waterfall
Today starts with an early breakfast, then a 3-hour hike to the Sunipi Causani (Toroyacu) Waterfall. You can swim at the base of the waterfall and relax as you enjoy this amazing sacred site. There, you will cook meals on an open fire and camp for the night.
Day 4 – Hike to San Roque de Cumbaza and Stay at Chirapa Manta Eco-lodge
After breakfast beside the waterfall, you will have time to relax some more before starting the hike to San Roque de Cumbaza. The hike to the village takes 3 hours. Once you arrive, you’ll have lunch. Then, you will rest and enjoy the Cumbaza River. From there, you will take a short walk to Chirapa Manta Eco-lodge, where you will stay the night. Dinner is at the lodge and you can relax in a hammock afterwards.
Day 5 – Explore the Village of San Roque De Cumbaza and Sunbathe by the Cumbaza River
Breakfast will be at the lodge. Then, you have time to explore the village of San Roque. The people there are very friendly and welcoming. One option for your free time is visiting the Sachaqa Art Center and watching artists work in the studio. You can also explore the village or swim and sunbathe by the Cumbaza River. After a delicious lunch made with regional and traditional ingredients, you will return to Tarapoto.
