Itinerary

Day 1 – Take in Wonderful Views at Perolniyoc Cascade Lookout and Q’orimarca Inca Site
You will be picked up at 5:00 am for your Inca Quarry Trail Tour and driven through scenic valleys for an hour and a half to the trek starting point. After some breakfast, you will meet the horsemen and porters joining you on your trek and set off on a one-hour hike to the Perolniyoc Cascade lookout to take some photos.

Then, you will start the hike to the campsite, climbing to an elevation of 12,136 feet (3,700 meters). You will take a break for lunch and then enjoy an afternoon hike to the Inca site of Q’orimarca. The Incas used this as a checkpoint. Finally, you will arrive to the campsite and spend the evening relaxing. If there are no clouds, you can stargaze. The total hiking for the day is 8 miles (13 kilometers) in weather that ranges from warm to cold.

Day 2 – Hike through Mountain Passes to the Sun Gate for Stunning Views of the Sacred Valley
Get ready for the day with the most challenging hiking along the Inca Quarry trail! The day includes 10.6 miles (17 kilometers) of hiking in cold weather. Today begins with a 4-hour hike to the top of Chancachuco Pass (14,432 feet/4,400 meters). Then, rest and enjoy the view before descending to a delicious lunch. In the afternoon, you will keep going uphill to the Kuychiccasa Mountain Pass (14,760 feet/4,500 meters).

From this pass, you can see snow-capped mountains such as Veronica and Huaccalwillca. Then, enjoy a downhill hike to the small archaeological site of Inti Punku (Sun Gate) and enjoy spectacular views of the Sacred Valley and Ollantaytambo. Next, continue hiking to your campsite for the evening, near the Inca quarry of Cachiqta (altitude 12,300 feet/3,750 meters).

Day 3 – Visit the Tombs of the Kachiqta Quarry and Take a Train to Aguas Calientes
After breakfast at your campsite, enjoy a downhill hike to visit the Kachiqta Quarry. Explore the site’s tombs and storage areas and see the abandoned carvings known as ‘tired rocks’, which were never completed due to the Spanish conquest. Then hike downhill to the Ollantaytambo train station and ride the train through the gorgeous valley to the town of Aguas Calientes (6,561 feet/2,000 meters). Today has easier hiking, only 4.3 miles (7 km) in warm weather. You will rest in a hostel room at the Inti Punko Hotel or a similar room in Aguas Calientes.

Day 4 – Tour the Incredible Wonder of the World: Machu Picchu and Return to Cusco
It’s an early start today to catch the 5:30 am bus to Machu Picchu. The bus will take you on a 30-minute trip along a winding road to the sacred Inca site. You will have a 2-hour tour, exploring Machu Picchu’s amazing temples and palaces. Afterward, you will have free time to explore some more.
