Prepare for this hiking Cordillera Blanca expedition; it will be an amazing one! Both Nevado Chopicalqui and Yanapaccha are located in the Cordillera Blanca Range and Huascaran National Park. The Nevado Chopicalqui trail goes inside the valley and surrounds the edge of the two beautiful lakes: Chinacocha and Orconcocha; it’s a breathtaking view. The Nevado Yanapaccha is the perfect place to climb because it’s full of crevices and climbing walls, and the nature that we can find here is amazing.

Day 1 – Hike from Huaraz to Campo Morrena
The day starts at Huaraz, where we will take the road towards Huaylas until Yungay, before heading east. Then we will go through the Llanganuco Valley, where you will be able to see the twin lakes Chicacocha and Orconcocha. We will continue until we reach Kilometer 42. Once there, we will start our hike, going through Campo Morrena (16,404 ft/5,000 m). Approximately 4 hours walking.
Day 2 – Climb a Wall to Summit Yanapaccha and Admire Glaciers
We will start the ascent at 3:00 am, crossing a moraine until we reach the wide glacier. We will then climb the 590-foot (180 m) wall (50-60°) until we reach the summit (17,913 ft/ 5,460 m). There, we will enjoy spectacular views of glaciers, such as the Huascaran, Chopicalqui, Pisco, Huandoys, and others. Later, we will start descending via a ridge, with views of the Chacraraju, to the moraine camp. The ascent is approx. 5 to 6 hours. The descent to camp is approx. approximately 3 – 4 hours walking.
Day 3 – Descend to Base Camp Chopicalqui
On the third day, we will go back down to kilometer 42 and we will continue to base camp Chopicalqui (14,534 ft/4,430 m), where we will camp for the night.
Day 4 – Walk Along a Ridge to a Moraine Camp
We will start our hike by a ridge and continue until we reach a moraine camp (15,813 ft/4,820 m), where we will spend the night. Approx. approximately 4 – 5 hours walking.
Day 5 – Ascend to the High Camp
We will start the hike by crossing several moraines until we reach the glacier. Then, we will start the journey up to the 17,650 ft (5380 m) point where we will set up camp. Approx. approximately 4 hours walking.
Day 6 – Climb to the Summit of Chopicalqui
We will start our hike at 1:00 am, ascending until we reach the ridge, before continuing onto the first wall (164 ft/50 m, 50-60°) and then the second wall (197 ft/60 m, 50-65°). We will climb to the top where great mountain views will await us (20,864 ft/6,354 m). Later, we will descend to Campo Morrena. Approx. approximately 5 – 6 hours walking
Day 7 – Return to Huaraz
On the last day, we will descend to the hairpin, where our ride will be waiting for us to return to Huaraz, where you can rest after your amazing hiking Cordillera Blanca Tour!
