Tour Information

Duration: 6 hours

Start/End Location: Hotel pick-up/drop-off in Las Tablas or Pedasi

Itinerary

Begin your day with the la pollera artisans, who utilize specialized techniques handed down for generations to create the intricate textiles. You’ll have the opportunity — and honor — to try on an authenic pollera and take a photo in Panama’s stunning national dress.

After a lunch of delicious regional cuisine, you’ll visit the expert artisans who make Panamanian sandals, or cutarras made entirely by hand and tailed specifically to your foot.

Traditional cutarras are made of 100% raw cowhide. According to the region’s oral tradition, it’s believed that the name cutarra comes from an indigenous king by the same name who ruled when Spaniards arrived to the region.

To end the day, you’ll learn the various techniques used to create traditional drums from the region, and which form part of Santo Domingo’s rich musical wealth.
