This tour is more than just a sea voyage, you will truly experience Panama in a unique way through various visits to native cultures in the Darien area and then taste the many different flavors that exist in this part of Panama.
You will be fully guided on this trip with the best service offered aboard The Discovery. Comfortable and with roomy cabins you will experience something truly unique over a span of 7 days by visiting the mysterious Darien Jungle and meet the indigenous Embera natives, visit the Pearl Islands, spend time near the Panama Canal, Gatun Lake, and famous Chagres National Park.

Panama City – Flamenco Marina
On the first day of this Panama Canal Boat Tour you will leave the city and head south into the beautiful Contador Island which is part of the Pearl Islands. Afterwards, you will begin to navigate towards the Darien Jungle and you will enjoy your first amazing Panamanian cuisine above the Discovery!
On day 2 you will visit the untouched Darien Jungle. On this day you will head back in history by visiting a remote part of the Darien Jungle and passing time with the natives of the area – the Embera people. This is a very great opportunity to get to know the lifestyle of the indigenous of the Darien and learn all about their culture, traditions and food.
After immersing yourself with the Embera you will return to board the Discovery and continue along.
Pearl Islands – San Telmo & Mogo Mogo
Day 3 will be spent visiting the Pearl Islands where you will be able to snorkel and explore the clear and blue waters of the Island. You will then be taken to the outer area of the archipelago and visit the Mogo Mogo and San Telmo islands where you can enjoy the beautiful beaches of the area and explore on foot to discover the biodiversity and history of the area such as the sunken submarine!
Panama Canal Transit – Gatun Lake
Day 4 will be spent at the famous Panama Canal and you will be able to apss through the passage aboard the Discovery!
You will travel through the northern bound canal passage and make your way through the Miraflores and Pedro Miguel Canal Locks.
Afterwards, you will then enter the Gaillard Cut which is the narrowest portion of the canal and allows the Discovery to go through the Continental Divide.
You will spend the evening on the beautiful Gatun Lake.
Panama Canal – Barro Colorado
Day 5 will be spent by visiting the Barro Colorado Island where the Smithsonian Research Center is located.
The Discovery will take you to the area and you will pass dense and lush rainforests where you will encounter exotic and rare bird species along with various other wildlife such as sloths, iguanas, crocodiles and animals in their native surroundings. Afterwards, you will then progress towards the Chagres river.
Chagres River – Fort San Lorenzo
On this day you will explore the Chagres River which is a secluded area with enormous beauty. This river is the heart of the colonial inter-oceanic boat route and now has become an absolute vital lifeline of the Panama Canal.
Your guide will explain to you the incredible history of the Chagres area on your route through the Chagres.
Portobelo – Caribbean
Your last day aboard the Discovery will be spent embarking through Portobelo and you will be able to enjoy this historic town that was founded by Christopher Columbus on his fourth voyage to the new continent in 1597.
While in Portobelo you will visit the famous Church of San Felipe, the sanctuary of Black Christ and later board the Panama Canal Railway train to get back to Panama City!
