On this Gatun Lake Fishing Tour, have a great experience and help protect local fish at the same time by catching peacock bass, an aggressive freshwater fish not native to Panama. Peacock bass, also known as “sargento,” have damaged the local ecosystem significantly since their introduction to the area in the 1950s. Since then, peacock bass have become the most important sport fish species in the area.
Sport fishing for peacock bass is similar to catching largemouth bass, except the former usually will not strike artificial worms. Peacock bass are delicious to eat, with white, sweet flesh that has very little oil. It is similar in taste to snapper or grouper and does not have too many bones. Start and end location: Panama City
You will be picked up from your hotel lobby at 6:30 am. Then, you will go to Gamboa, where the Chagres River converges with the Panama Canal. You will board your fishing boat and head north along the Panama Canal to Gatun Lake. After a fun morning catching peacock bass at the best fishing spots of the area, you will start the return journey. You will get back to your hotel between 13:00 pm and 13:30 pm.
