Embark on a Embera Tribe Day Tour in Chagres National Park

The indigenous people of the Embera tribe originated from the remote rainforest of Darien’s Jungle and migrated to the Chagres River bank, which is situated about half an hour from Panama City. The Chagres River is one of the main water sources in Panama and feeds the Panama Canal. Due to its importance, the Chagres National Park was founded in 1984 to protect its water resources.

On this tour you will visit the Embera tribe of Parara Puru village within the reserve, which was established in the Chagres National Park. You will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in their customs and learn about their beliefs by mixing in with the locals and listening to their stories deep in the scenic Chagres National Park.

Highlights

  • Visit the indigenous Embera people and immerse yourself in their beautiful culture
  • Enjoy a typical lunch and beverage of the Embera people

At the village, you will then meet with the village chief and be welcomed by the Embera people. The tribe will then demonstrate their traditional celebrations and dances while inviting the guests to join them. Experience and try for yourself their traditional dances and celebrations, why not? After which, you will then have a bit of free time to talk with the Embera people about their history, culture and customs.

Later in the afternoon, you will be led along a narrow trail where an Embera guide will take you along the scenic route and identify various flora and fauna that are used daily due to its medicinal properties or usefulness in creating handicrafts.
