A delicious way to learn about a culture is through its food. On this Matagalpa tour, you will experience Nicaraguan history and culture as well as the economic impact of two important local crops – chocolate and coffee. You will visit the “Foreigners’ Cemetery,” museum of Carlos Fonseca, the Coffee Museum, city center’s old cathedral, and the Guanuca market. A highlight of the tour is a visit to the chocolate factory El Castillo del Cacao, where some of the best chocolates in Nicaragua are made using organic cocoa from small Matagalpan growers. In this small factory, you will learn about the important events in the history of cocoa and be able to observe a semi-artisanal production process. Finally, you get to taste this delicious chocolate while enjoying a nice view of the city and surrounding mountains.
