The Sierra Norte Oaxaca area is one of the richest regions in biodiversity. It has seven out of the nine types of vegetation that exist in Mexico. Come and discover this region on a three-day hiking expedition. You will begin up in the mountains, at 10,170 feet (3,100 meters) above sea level in Cuajimoloyas and descend to Amatlán, located at an altitude of 6,562 feet (2,000 meters).

Day 1 – Enjoy a Lovely Views on a Walk to the Ya-cuetzi Lookout
Your Sierra Norte Oaxaca journey starts at 17:00 pm in the community of Cuajimoloyas with a short walk to the Ya-cuetzi Lookout to acclimatize to the region’s altitude. From the top of the mountain, you will admire a nice view of the community and a pleasant sunset.
Day 2 – Wander in a Pine and Oak Forest in “The Land of the Rolled Leaf”
Right after breakfast, you will start your hike to Latuvi, “The land of the rolled leaf”. Your route will take you through forests full of pine and oak trees for a distance of approximately 10 miles (16 kilometers), lasting 5-6 hours.
Day 3 – Walk by a Riverside on a Pre-Hispanic Route
You will continue your trip going to the community of Amatlán, through the “Camino Real”, part of a wider pre-Hispanic route that connected the central valleys with the Gulf of Mexico. The trail is about 8.7 miles (14 kilometers) and part of the trip goes by the riverside. The walking time is around 4-5 hours.
