On this Jalisco multi-day tour of tequila and folk-art, get to know Mexico through its most iconic state. Visit an agave farm and tequileria, and learn your perfect tequila blend from a master tequilero. Travel to San Jose Tlaquepaque, one of Mexico’s preeminent centers artisan crafts, and marvel at the outstanding artisan work at the Annual Masters of Folk Art Fair.

Itinerary

Day 1: Travel to San Jose Tlaquepaque and Explore
7:00 am — Meet at St. Paul’s Church (Cardo #6) in San Miguel de Allende for your drive to San Jose Tlaquepaque, one of Mexico’s preeminent centers for decorative arts and crafts. Enjoy a boxed breakfast en route. Check in to your small hotel right in the downtown shopping district, and enjoy lunch at a nearby restaurant.

Your guide will provide you maps at the hotel, and you’ll have the opportunity to explore  Tlaquepaque’s plethora of shops and its two outstanding ceramic arts museums, or relax by the pool at the hotel. Meet in the hotel lobby for dinner*.

Day 2: Tour a Tequileria with a Master Tequila Expert
8:00 — Enjoy breakfast at our hotel then set out for a private tour of a tequila farm. A master tequilero (tequila expert) will lead you through the agave fields and tequila processing process. Then, your master tequilero will guide you in an expert tasting, and help you identify the perfect tequila blend for your palate!

You’ll return to your hotel for lunch*. In the afternoon, you’ll have time to visit tequilerias in town or relax at the hotel. You’ll meet in the lobby for dinner*.

Day 3: Visit an Archaeological Site and Travel to Ajijic
8:00 — After breakfast at the hotel, check out and head south toward Lake Chapala. Along the day, you’ll stop at the archaeological site of Guachimontones. Here, encounter the stepped pyramids of an ancient society dating as early as 900 BCE! Visit the archaeological site and museumto learn more.

Enjoy lunch* at a nearby hacienda, then drive to the lakeside town of Ajijic. Check in to your charming BnB, then meet in the lobby for an orientation and to receive your map. Take the afternoon to explore the small town, go birdwatching nearby, or rest. Meet for dinner* in the lobby.

Day 4: Experience a Folk Art Festival
8:00 — Enjoy breakfast at the BnB, then set out for the Chapala Yacht Club and the Masters of Folk Art Festival! Arrive at the fair as it opens and spend time shopping and admiring fine artisan folk art. Take the opportunity to walk along the nearby shoreline park! Eat lunch* at the fair or at one of Chapala’s nearby restaurants.

Return to Ajijic by mid-afternoon and enjoy a free afternoon to visit the gardens of the Lake Chapala Society, go birdwatching, or relax. In the evening, meet in the hotel lobby for dinner*.

Day 5: Say Goodbye to Jalisco
7:00 – 8:00 — After breakfast, check out of the hotel and begin your return journey to San Miguel de Allende. You’ll stop for sandwiches* along the way and should arrive by 16:00 pm.
