Itinerary

Begin your day with hotel pick-up in Merida and transfer about 1 hour to Izamal. Upon arrival, Explore the pyramids and other Maya archaeological sites for a look at the outstanding architecture and cultural sophistication of the great civilization.

Then visit the Franciscan monastery and pilgrimage site– with magnificent atrium second only in size to that of the Vatican! Several of the monastery’s statues are said to perform miracles, particularly the colonial depiction of the Virgin Mary, Our Lady of Izamal.

Throughout the day, you’ll walk through Izamal’s many small and charming streets. Note as you explore how even the local gastronomy and handmade artesanal goods reflect the long history of this Mayan village. Grab lunch at a local restaurant.
