Itinerary

Begin your day trip from Villahermosa with hotel pick-up and transfer to Teapa, Tabasco. Here, hike through tropical jungle to reach the spectacular Caves of Cocona. Hike through vaulting caverns, and admire stalagmites, stalactites, and rock formations along the way.

Reach the “Great Vault,” a colossal cavern over 300 feet (100 m) long, 75 feet (25 m) wide, and 75 feet (25 m) high! Here, encounter a hidden underground cenote, and try to spot native blind fish swimming in the cool underground pool.

From the caves, continue onward to Oxolotan to visit the Museum of La Sierra and a 16th century Dominican convent. The convent is an iconic representation of early colonial architecture, and the museum provides an in-depth and fascinating overview if the region’s colonial and pre-colonial history. Grab lunch in Oxolotan before continuing your trip onward.

End the day with a visit to the magic pueblo of Tapijulapa. Here, explore cobblestone streets and admire the charming red and white houses unique to the area. Encounter hanging gardens in the main square, and visit the emblematic 17th century church of Santiago Apóstal. Nearby, admire the work of skilled local craftsmen as they weave wooden furniture.
