Miscellaneous: Beginner/first time snorkelers are welcome, but must be able to swim to participate in snorkeling portion of trip (optional).

Itinerary

Meet early in the morning for a short boat trip to the marine shark observation zone, where whale sharks gather to feed. Along the way, your bilingual, naturalist guide will introduce you to whale shark ecology, snorkeling regulations, and Balanda Bay’s rich biodiversity.

Upon arrival to the observation zone, you’ll have the opportunity to observe these gentle giants up close! If you’re feeling adventurous, jump in and snorkel alongside the world’s biggest fish for an unforgettable encounter!

Your tour continues onward to the shores of Balandra Bay for a seaside hike and lunch, before returning to La Paz. During peak whale shark season, boat activity increases in the area. Your itinerary may change in order to get the best look at the whale sharks.

Important Notes

  • Trip typically departs at 8:15 from the tourist pier in downtown La Paz. Departures from RED marina and Costa Baja marina are also available. Inquire for alternative departure times and hotel pick-ups.
  • All trips staffed by bilingual naturalist guide and a licensed captain.
  • Boats are outboard skiffs with full shade, seat cushions, and dry storage space.
  • Whale sharks are an endangered species and passengers will be briefed on regulations for snorkeling in the observation zone. Passengers not complying with regulations (e.g. touching or grabbing whale sharks) may be returned to shore and referred to proper authorities.
