Itinerary

DAY 1 – Discover Magdalena Bay

Your Baja California turtle conservation and whale watching tour begins with early morning pick-up in La Paz and 3.5-hour transfer to Magdalena Bay. Stop en route for breakfast and coffee at a rustic ranch. Upon arrival to the eco-camp, enjoy lunch then head out onto the bay with your guide and boat captain to meet the gray whales!

In the afternoon, return to the eco-camp for a happy hour and informal presentation on tomorrow’s activities with the sea turtle restoration project. Get a good night’s sleep under star-filled skies.

DAY 2 – Monitor, Measure, and Release Sea Turtles

Sleep in or wake up early and grab a fresh cup of coffee, as you watch watch fisher/conservationists prepare their nets for sea turtle monitoring. At breakfast, learn more about the monitoring process and protocol for your expedition today.

After breakfast, you’ll set out with the monitoring team to check the turtle-friendly nets for turtles. Captured turtles will be taken to camp, where researchers will take measurements and collect data before releasing the turtle back into the wild. Every 2 hours, you’ll have the chance to join the researchers out on the water in search of turtles.

In the afternoon, you’ll have time to explore the mangrove forests and dunes between outings. The monitoring process will continue into the night.

DAY 3 – Observe Gray Whales and Explore the Bay

After breakfast, take a boat trip to observe the whales. Out on the water, your naturalist guide will brief you on the yearly migration of the gray whales, from the Bering Sea to Mexico’s Pacific coast. Out on the water, you may have the opportunity to get close to the whales, and encounter these gentle giants up close.

In the afternoon, relax at camp or explore the protected coast line. After dinner, enjoy free time to check out the stars

DAY 4 – Gray Whales to La Paz

In the morning wake up and watch Magdalena Bay’s spectacular sunrise one more time. Grab breakfast, then say goodbye to your eco-camp hosts before setting out for one last day on the water.
