Quilotoa Volcano is a water-filled caldera and the most western volcano in the Ecuadorian Andes. The 3-kilometre (2 mi)-wide caldera was formed by the collapse of this dacite volcano following a catastrophic VEI-6 eruption about 600 years ago, which produced pyroclastic flows and lahars that reached the Pacific Ocean, and spread an airborne deposit of volcanic ash throughout the northern Andes. Join us on a 6 days 5 nights horseback trip where we bring you to explore this region on a horse!

You will also ride along ancient mule tracks – used for hundreds of years by the Incas, colonists, alcohol smugglers, and merchants – before stopping for lunch. After lunch, you will ride to a tiny town called Insilivi, composed of two main streets and about 50 houses. Here you will find a comfortable hostel to spend your first night at the mountains. You will have the option to see the valley from a viewpoint that will allow you to observe the arrival points for the next few days. At the hostel you will be able to enjoy a hot tub and steam room, a delicious dinner and a fireplace.

Then you will start your descent and stop by at one of the artisanal cheese factories, where you will learn about cheese-making, the local traditions, culture and their lifestyle. After that, you will arrive at Chugchilan, a small town with important tourist activity based on the beauty and popularity of the Quilotoa Volcano and its canons.
