Canoe down the gorgeous Peñas Blancas River and enjoy the peace, serenity, and diversity of the surrounding rainforest. Along the banks, you will have an opportunity to see blue morpho butterflies, brightly colored tropical birds, monkeys, iguanas sunbathing on rocks, and the pastures of local farms. Your bilingual naturalist guide will help you spot wildlife and explain what you are seeing as you go. You will also stop at a local farm and learn about traditional Costa Rican life.
Your day begins with a 20 minute drive from La Fortuna to the river, where your guide will give you a brief paddling tutorial and safety briefing.
For the following three hours, you will float and gently paddle down the river, observing flora and fauna, with explanations from your guide to help you learn more about what you are seeing. Your guide will also take you on a short walk to observe the famous red poisonous frogs in their natural habitats. You will also stop at a local farm to learn about how Costa Rican life was about 70 years ago and to enjoy a traditional snack.
Finally, you will paddle down the San Carlos river to the meeting point, where your transport will bring you back to your hotel.
