Day 1: Explore an Archaeological Site & Arrive at Villa de Leyva
Your day begins with hotel pick-up in Bogota at 7:00 am. In the late morning, travel to an archaeological site and pre-Spanish observatory built by the Muisca indigenous people. Learn why Spanish conquistadors considered the observatory El Infiernito, or The Little Hell. Next, travel to Blue Pond, a vibrant blue water reservoir and important resource for local farmers.
You will arrive at Villa de Leyva at around 14:30 pm. Check in to your boutique hotel just steps from the outstanding 46,000 square foot town square — considered the largest colonial town plaza in all of South America. Explore the grounds, take a peek at the breathtaking colonial church facing the plaza, and find artesanal goods in the nearby shops.
At night, enjoy dinner on the town at one of the Villa’s many charming restaurants.
Day 2: Explore Villa de Leyva
Today, you’re free to explore the village and surrounding countryside by yourself, or your guide can help arrange any additional activities (not included). Today, you may enjoy hiking, buggy races, horseback riding, visiting museums or archaeological sites, or exploring historic building! The day is yours to choose your own adventure.
Day 3: Visit Colombia’s Pottery Capital
Today, your driver will pick you up at the hotel at 11:00 am for your trip back to Bogota. Along the way, you’ll stop at Ráquira, a picturesque village famous for its long tradition of pottery work. Here, you’ll enjoy lunch (not included) and have time to explore and purchase any artesanal works you’d like.
