Tour Information

Duration: 4 Days

Start/End Location: Buenaventura Port

Itinerary

Day 1: Travel by Boat to La Plata — A Natural Paradise
Begin your Urambá National Park experience with an early morning meet-and-greet with your local coordinator at Buenaventura Port. From here, you’ll set out by boat along the white-sand shores of Mágala Bay, to reach the Afro-Colombian community of La Plata.

Nestled between tropical rainforest and mangrove forests, La Plata is a paradise with both spectacular biodiversity and rich cultural heritage. Here, spend the afternoon hiking along rustic trails, exploring the village, or relaxing in a hammock on your private terrace.

Day 2: Explore Mangrove Forests and Luscious Waterfalls
After breakfast, set out with your local guide to discover the mangrove forest in a traditional canoe. Your guide will lead you through winding pathways in search of Piangua shells — the region’s most common seafood. With your guide, you’ll collect specific shells in accordance with the international eco-sustainable standards for Piangua shell collection.

Back in the village, prepare the Piangua shells and other cuisine together with a local cook. You’ll get a deeper insight into the daily life of your gracious hosts, and learn new cooking and food preparation techniques from a local expert.

In the afternoon take a boat through tropical rainforest to reach the impressive La Sierpe waterfall. Bring swimwear for a swim in the pristine natural pools formed by La Sierpe.

In the evening, return to your lodge where local musicians from the La Plata community will perform Afro-Colombian music!

Day 3: Go Birding, Explore Mangroves, and See Glowing Plankton on the Bay
Today is full of outdoor adventures! After breakfast, set out for the mangrove forests with a professional local birder. Identify spectacular native species including the tiger crane, kingfishers, and many others!

Afterwards, travel by canoe to discover the four Mangrove types, and learn the importance of mangroves in providing habitat, fighting erosion, and protecting coastline.  After dinner, take a boat to experience remarkable glowing plankton in the bay. This fascinating and eerie sight is a truly spectacular natural encounter!
