Quindio Province is known for its architecture, friendly small towns, coffee plantations, stunning landscapes, and towering wax palm trees. Explore the mountainous region with a local guide. On this 5-day tour, you’ll amazed by the diversity, culture, and natural wonders hidden away in even the littlest mountain community.
Colombia’s Quindio Department is located directly between the country’s three largest cities–Cali, Bogota, and Medellin — and is nestled in the foothills of the Andes mountains. Famous for its architecture, coffee plantations, stunning landscapes, and towering wax palm trees, Quindio Province is a perfect getaway from the big city.
On this 5-day tour, your guide will take you through the beautiful small towns of Pijao, Buena Vista, Salento, Filandio and Circasia. Each community has something culturally significant to offer, and each traveler will be amazed by the diversity in even the littlest of mountain communities.
Day 1 — Explore a Coffee Plantation
Buenavista is a scenic municipality that enjoys some of the best views of Colombian Coffee Region. Up on the mountain, you’ll enjoy the peace and quiet that this small coffee town offers, as well as stunning views of the valley below.
Today, you’ll have the opportunity to visit one of the region’s coffee farms. Get an up-close look at the growing and production processes, meet the farmers and workers, and sip on a fresh cup of coffee straight from the source.
Day 2 — Get Local in Quindio’s Small Towns
Today, explore Cocora Valley (Valley of the Palms) and the small colonial towns of Salento and Filandia. Marvel at thousands of the world’s tallest palm trees that rise over 200 feet (60 meters) into the clouds. Wander through Salento’s quaint downtown and admire its colorful buildings and lush green hillsides. Drink a bold Colombian roast in Filandia’s town plaza, and get to know the region’s friendly locals.
Take the day to connect with stunning natural beauty, explore quaint small towns, and enjoy spring-like weather and sunny personalities in Colombia’s Quindio region.
Day 3 — Stop and Smell the Flowers at Pijao
Pijao is a quaint little community surfounded by green mountains. Walking past brightly colored buildings on cobblestone streets, you’ll feel suspended in time as locals greet neighbors and passersby from their doorways.
Recognized across Latin America as the “Slow City,” Pijao wears this nickname with pride. Painted balconies and window boxes filled with blooming flowers speak to the local culture of slowing down to take time for the little things.
Sit in the town center and enjoy a cup of coffee, explore secret side streets, or — quite literally — stop and smell the flowers.
Day 4 — Bike Quindio’s Countryside
Today, you’ll be traveling by bicycle! Wake up early and travel from Armenia to the winding roads of Quindio’s scenic countryside. Jump onto the hiking and biking trails that follow the Quindio River for breathtaking scenery, and fresh air cooled by the nearby water. As the trip becomes more scenic, keep a look out for local wildlife!
Bike until you reach Boquia, where you’ll enjoy a well-earned lunch.
Day 5 — Say Goodbye to Quindio Colombia
Today, you’ll say goodbye to Quindio’s small towns and lush mountains. After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll pack up and head to the bus station for your onward travel.
