Located northwards of Nuquí on Colombia’s Pacific Coast, the Parque Nacional Utria is a natural landmark of Colombia. On this tour, you will be able to visit indigenous communities in the jungle, explore the park, birdwatch and discover coral reefs as well as the only white sandy beach at Colombia’s Pacific Coast.
If you visit during the months of July to November, you will also be able to spot humpback whales migrating to give birth and raise their newborns. This part of the world is one of the best places in the world to watch these lovely creatures.

Start/End location: Medellin, Colombia
Day 1: Flight Medellín – Nuquí & Hot Springs of Jurubirá
On the first day, you will take a flight from the city of Medellin to Nuquí, where you will meet the coordinator of the Community Tourism Alliance. On a boat, you will first visit the afro-Colombian community of Jurubirá, a fishing village just outside of Utria National Park, where they cultivate “zoteas” gardens in old canoes raised up on stilts. You will then embark on a hike with a guide, to the local hot springs located in the middle of a tropical jungle, where you can relax before heading back to your eco-hotel for the night.
Day 2: Utria National Park & Playa Blanca
After breakfast, commence your adventure to the Utria National Park for some whale-watching (July to November). After a guided tour to the visitor’s centre, a wooden path will take you around the mangroves to get a better understanding of this important ecosystem. Then, explore the national park with your guide through the prime forest, and eventually arriving at a remote sandy beach, where you will be picked up and brought to Playa Blanca. After a delicious lunch, it is free-and-easy at the beach and in the evening you will return to the hotel.
Day 3: Jungle Hike and Indigenous Settlements
In the morning, you will take a boat back to Jurubira to do a 2-hour hike to visit an indigenous community deep in the rainforest. You will be able to experience how they survive in the forest, and get a better understanding of their daily life. In the afternoon, a traditional canoe takes you back to Jurubira to return back to your hotel.
Day 4: Depart from Nuquí
On the last day, a boat will bring you back to the village of Nuquí to catch your flight back to Medellín after your breakfast.
