Day 1 – Ride Along the Coffee Highway, Tour the City of Manizales, and Stay at a Coffee Farm
Your Manizales coffee tour trip will start early as our driver picks you up at your Medellín hotel and takes you to the bus terminal. From there, you will begin your adventure on a 4-hour bus road trip to Manizales via the spectacular coffee highway. Your knowledgeable guide will be waiting for you at the terminal in Manizales, ready to show you his marvelous city.
First, you will go to the Plaza de Bolivar, the main square of the city, where you will see the government palace, the main Cathedral, and the statue Bolivar Condor. Then, you’ll walk down Carrera 23, the main street, take a cable car around the city and the gorgeous Quebrada Olivares. Once you finish, there will be a car waiting to take you to the neighborhood of Chipre to see the striking Monumento a Los Colonizadores.
Next, you’ll go to a trendy zone in Manizales which has a great variety of restaurants and bars. Here, you will have some spare time for lunch (at your own expense). We suggest you try a typical Colombian dish of the region! After lunch, hop back in the car to head to Hacienda Venecia, a beautiful coffee farm just outside Manizales which has conserved its early 20th-century architecture. You will stay in this enchanting hacienda for the next two nights.
Day 2 – Wander through Lovely Salento Village and Marvel at the Natural Beauty of Cocora Valley
Start your day off right with a delicious Colombian breakfast. Afterward, hop in the car to be taken to Salento, a small, enchanting village 2 hours away from Manizales, in the region of Quindío. Here, take three hours to stroll through the lively and colorful streets filled with colonial houses, handicrafts, antique shops, and restaurants.
Next, go up to Alto de la Cruz and be astounded by the dazzling green valleys and spectacular coffee country landscape. When you come down, take your time to have lunch at a local restaurant (at your own expense).
The tour continues on to the amazing Cocora Valley, which is inside the Parque Nacional de Los Nevados (one of Colombia’s many national parks). You will be here for a couple of hours with a number of options for spending your time. The first option is to stay in the car and let your driver take you through the park to appreciate the grasslands, wax palms, creeks, and famous cloud forest. Another option is to hire a professional guide (at your own expense) and go on a hike to learn about the local flora and fauna. Last but not least, you may rent a horse (at your own expense) and go horseback riding through the marvelous valley.
When you are done with your two hours in the park, you will be taken back to Hacienda Venecia to enjoy a delicious dinner and rest for the night.
Day 3 – Tour the Hacienda Venecia Coffee Plantation and Learn about the Coffee Process
After a delightful breakfast, you will have a personalized Manizales coffee tour of the coffee plantations of Hacienda Venecia. As you walk through the luscious coffee plantations, learn about the process from harvest to production and why coffee became such an important part of Colombian culture. On your Manizales coffee tour, you will also learn why the plantations are located so high in the mountains and how production methods have been passed down from generation to generation. You will have an insider look at the process and learn about the modern and traditional techniques of coffee production.
After your Manizales coffee tour, you will head back to the main house to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee and have the chance to buy some Hacienda Venecia coffee.
