Immerse Yourself in History at the Colombian National Museum
This Colombian National Museum Tour is perfect for history and art lovers! Enjoy a wonderful guided visit to the oldest museum in Colombia accompanied by a local professional guide. The building was an important prison in the region for 72 years before becoming a museum and National Monument. Built in 1874, the building was inspired by the idea of the “Panopticon,” where the prisoners are isolated from each other, but always watched from a central tower.
The museum’s collection of over 20,000 pieces is divided into 4 sections: art, history, archaeology, and ethnography. Permanent exhibitions present archaeology and ethnography samples dating from 10,000 BC up to twentieth-century indigenous and Afro-Colombian art and cultural pieces.
