Tour Information

Duration: 2 days, one night

Start/End Location: Hotel pick-up/drop-off in Bogota

Trip Type: Private Tour. You and your group will be the only participants.

Itinerary

Day 1: Get to Know Camajuha Reserve
Your tour will begin with hotel pick up in Bogota and transfer 1.5 hours north to Machetá. On your way, you’ll pass through massive single-product farms — a stark contrast to the diversity you’ll find in eco-farming.

Upon your arrival at Camajuha Reserve and coffee farm, you’ll receive a warm welcome and have the opportunity to settle into your lodge before touring the place. Explore the 85-year-old farm dedicated to native forests and vegetables and strong agro-ecologic processes.

After enjoying a delicious locally-sourced dish, you will have the opportunity to play Tejo or Tumerqué (a local sport) — a thrilling, complicated, traditional game always played along with refreshing national beers. Afterwards, you will spend a calm night in the countryside to wake up fully renewed.

Day 2: Explore the Farm and Make Local Recipes
In the morning, learn how Arepas de Laja and other typical dishes for breakfast are prepared. Then dig in! Later in the day, you’ll explore the farm to learn about the coffee process — from seed, to harvest, to roast, and to your favorite coffee mug!

Then, you’ll have a pleasant tour through the planted fields and woods of the farm where you’ll get to know many native species and their roles in local ecology and gastronomy.

During this learning process, you will be taught many recipes and you will be able to take home some of your own preparations as a unique souvenir. After preparing and enjoying a delicious lunch with local ingredients, you will get to know nearby farms in the Tenza Valley to observe the diversity present in each altitude.

Finally, you will have a relaxing hot-spring bath at Napoles natural hot-springs before returning to Bogota.

About Your Guides

Natalia is an artist and thoughtful explorer. Her work is focused on photography, drawing, and ceramics. A fan and researcher of traditional medicine and medicinal herbs, she will be your “Chef de cuisine,” who will reveal the secrets of rural gastronomy.

Julian is a mechatronic engineer who specializes in alternative energies. He is dedicated to carpentry and sustainable production in the farm. He will be your guide, driver, and translator.

Together, Natalia and Julian work in agro tourism in Colombia, and grow crops including coffee, sugar cane, chachafruto, and other vegetables. They’ve designated 75% of their plot of land to native forest reforestation and biodiversity recovery. They work with apiculture to avoid any artificial pollination. Their foods are free of agro-chemicals and fertilizers.

Eager to share their passion with thoughtful and ecologically-minded travelers and locals, Natalia and Julian founded Camajuha, a project dedicated to ecological preservation located in Machetá north of Bogota. They offer agro-tourism, birdwatching, hiking, environmental education, and gastronomic tours that focus on rescuing native foods and recipes.
