You will first be picked up at your hotel and then driven to the village of Los Andes, to start a day of adventure. Along the way, you will pass by the Monument to the Battle of Chacabuco. The battle led to Chile’s independence and the monument remains an important landmark today.
As you drive through the mountains, on the eastern side of the Aconcagua Valley, you’ll arrive at the first stop of the tour: San Esteban Vineyard. This vineyard is a pioneer in using hillsides with rocky soil and exposure to the sun to produce high-quality grapes rich in character and structure. You will be able to tour the vineyard and then taste their premium wines. After that, you will continue into the Andes on a twisting road called “El Caracol” (The Snail), at an altitude of 8,800 feet (2680 m) above sea level.
In addition to spectacular mountain views, you can also admire Inca ruins. At these sites, llama caravans set up camp to rest after traveling on the Inca Trail. You can also see the ruins of tracks and tunnels of the Transandino Railway.
Only a few miles shy of the Chile-Argentina border, you’ll arrive at Laguna del Inca. There, learn about the legend of the sacred lake. Beside the lagoon is Portillo, the oldest ski resort in South America. You’ll have lunch there, admiring fantastic views of the sparkling lagoon, framed by the Andes Mountains. If you like, you can instead have lunch further down the mountain. There is a rustic restaurant that offers delicious typical Chilean food.
