The Maipo Valley is known to be the birthplace of the Chilean wine industry and it’s the closest Chilean wine region to Chile’s capital, Santiago. Our tour starts in the Santa Rita Winery, which was founded in the 1880s. It’s a spectacular old hacienda-style house, where you can enjoy a glass of their best wine while wandering around the old cellars.
In this part of the tour, we will visit “Bodega 1.” This was the winery’s first cellar and is also called the “Cellar of the 120 Patriots.” If you are wondering what this “120 Patriots” is about, don’t worry, we will explain the amazing story in this unique tour. We will also stop at the grape variety gardens and vineyards, where you will learn about the winemaking, cellaring and bottling process. Our time in this winery ends with us enjoying the taste of a Reserva and Gran Reserva wines.
Once we have finished our tour of the Santa Rita Winery, we can visit the Andean Museum, where you will find a special selection of pre-Columbian textiles, pottery, and more. After the museum, our next stop is for a well-deserved lunch in the town of Pirque.
When lunch is over, we will head to the world-renowned Concha y Toro Vineyard. This vineyard has existed since 1883, when its pioneering founder, Don Melchor Concha y Toro, brought vines from the Bordeaux region of France to Chile’s Maipo River basin. In this vineyard, we will walk through the gardens of the summer residence of the family, visit their cellars, and taste a fine selection of wines.
