After Breakfast we will drive 2 hours to Punta de Choros. Here, we will go on a boat tour to the Island of Damas (Isla de Damas) where you will get the chance to see peguins and, with some luck, dolphins. This island is a natural reserve and offers hiking paths and is the home to lots of different sea and land animals.
After the tour, we will enjoy a seafood lunch at a local family restaurant. In the evening, we will spend the night camping on the coast.
Day 3: The Solar Eclipse
Today, we will drive down south to La Higuera, a small town a little bit north of La Serena. There we will set up camp and prepare for the total solar eclipse. You will get the chance to walk around and enjoy the beautiful beaches. Around 16:00 PM, we will have everything ready to enjoy the spectacular event. For a moment, you will experience darkness in the day as the sun disappears.
After the eclipse, we will have a traditional Chilean Asado (BBQ) with local drinks and live music at our camp to celebrate the eclipse. Tonight, we camp again by the coast and fall asleep to the sound of crashing waves.
Day 4: La Serena City Tour
Today, you’ll have the chance to sleep in and enjoy a late breakfast close to the beach. After packing up, we will travel to La Serena, where we will go on a city tour, visiting the local market. Afterwards a short visit to the port town of Coquimbo, where you will learn about the history of the town.
We will spend the night in wooden cabins a little south of Coquimbo. Far away from the flocks of tourists in that area. We will share our last night with a local family, who will cook a home-cooked dinner for us.
