Day 1 – Drive from San Pedro to the Bolivian Border and Marvel at Lagoons in the Highlands
On the first day of your San Pedro de Atacama to Uyuni Tour, you will leave your hotel at 7:30 am, take a minibus from San Pedro de Atacama to the border of Bolivia, and cross the immigration controls between Chile and Bolivia.

Once at the border, you will continue your San Pedro de Atacama to Uyuni tour by changing from a minibus to a 4W vehicle. On this first day, you will visit beautiful natural sites in the Bolivian highlands, such as Laguna Blanca (White Lagoon) and Laguna Verde (Green Lagoon), located at the foot of the Licancabur Volcano.

Then, you will continue the adventure with the Salvador Dalí Desert, Polques Baths, and the Geysers del Sol de Mañana (Geysers of the Morning Sun). The intermittent spurts of water at the geysers reach temperatures of 194°F (90°C). Lastly, you will end the day at Laguna Colorada (Red Lagoon), home to over 30,000 flamingos! You will spend the night at Villa Mar (altitude 13,090 feet/3,990 meters).

Day 2 – Admire Fascinating Rock Formations and Spot Unique Andean Wildlife in Canyons
At 8:00 am, you’ll start the day with visits to the city of Rocas, the volcanic lava of the Rocas Valley, and the World Cup and Camel rock formations. Afterwards, you will drive to Laguna Catal, Laguna Vinto, Inca Canyon, and Sora Canyon. In those places, you will be able to admire the mysterious Andean flora and fauna such as llamas, vicuñas, vizcachas, ñanduz, and even foxes. In the evening, you will spend the night in Villa Martin.

Day 3 – Watch the Sunrise over the Uyuni Salt Flats and Visit Uyuni Attractions
At 5:00 am, you will leave the hostel to marvel at the sunrise over the Uyuni Salt Flats. Then, you will visit Incahuasi Island, a calcareous rock formation located in the middle of the Salt Flats. Afterwards, you’ll continue to the Ojos del Salar (Salt Flat Eyes), the Salt Mines, the Salt Museum, the Train Cemetery and the town of Colchani. Lastly, your San Pedro de Atacama to Uyuni tour comes to an end as you arrive at 15:00 pm to Uyuni.

What to Bring

  • Light wind-blocking clothes that cover arms and legs
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, and swimsuit
  • Close-toed trekking shoes
  • Warm clothes for the winter months (gloves, hats, scarves)
  • Cameras and batteries
  • Toilet paper
  • Your luggage or backpack should weigh a maximum of 33 pounds (15 kilograms) for the vehicle suspension
  • 2 liters of water for the first day (after then you can buy on the way)
  • Around 300 Bolivian pesos per person for personal expenses (equivalent of about $43 USD)
  • Valid passport and immigration card that you receive at each immigration border (in case of visa, please consult your sales agent to prevent any delays with the immigration offices in Chile or Bolivia)

Important Notes

  • This tour is not recommended for children under 7 years old, people over 65 years old, or people with high altitude problems.
  • The itinerary is subject to changes in case of high plateau winter rains (from January to March) that might modify the order of the places to visit and/or the included accommodations. In any case, we will work on always maintaining the level and conditions of the lodges.
