Ascend Cerro Toco and Get the Best Views of Atacama Region

How does a full-day climb up an ancient dormant volcano sound? If this is your thing, then join us for a tour up Cerro Toco, located 60 kilometers away from San Pedro de Atacama and is known to be the easiest mountain to climb in the region.

Ideal for beginners, the summit of Cerro Toco located 5600 meters above sea level will offer you one of the best views of the region and that of any Atacama volcano can offer.

During the ascent, you will also be able to see ice penitents, which are large icy waters that are generated naturally as a result of sublimation – in the shape of needles.

The view may be great, but due to the steep slope of the hill, its ascent must be done very calmly – if you are in a haste, you will get mountain sickness and a lack of oxygen.

Besides, temperatures might go below -10 degrees celsius, so wear more clothing and avoid getting frozen!

Highlights

  • Ascend a dormant volcano
