The Mapuche community has a truly rich culture that you will be able to discover on this tour. Get to know their way of life and way of thinking before watching the solar eclipse.
On this 3-day tour you will have the amazing opportunity to see the 2020 Solar Eclipse, but also to visit a local Mapuche community and learn about their identity and culture. You will have the privilege to see the eclipse from the Mapuche perspective.

Day 1: Introduction to the Mapuche community
Your tour will start with a presentation of the program of these 3 days, and a discussion on Mapuche philosophy and way of thinking.
Then, you will visit a local farm and get to know the “Mapuche peasant life” before enjoying a local Mapuche lunch. In the afternoon you are going to visit a workshop of handcrafted soaps made of honey and natural herbs. After that, you will go on a walk to Copihupulli waterfall, before visiting a medicinal herb garden.
Around 18:30 (6:30 pm), you will be transferred to your host families and have dinner.
Day 2: The highlight of the tour, the long-awaited Solar Eclipse Chile 2020!
This second day will start around 07:45 am with a local peasant breakfast, before heading towards the sector Villarrica National Park. Once there, you will walk to the eclipse observation point, and have a discussion on “Mapuche Astronomy and Cosmology”. Then, the eclipse observation process will start around 11:45 am, during which you will have a picnic with local products. The total eclipse will take place around 13:00 (1:00 pm), and the whole process will end around 14:30 (2:30 pm).
Your day will continue with an Interpretative walk in one of the region’s forests, and a visit to Walüng market. Around 19:30 (7:30 pm), you will eat some roasted lamb for dinner before going back to your host families.
Day 3: Option A: Discover the local nature
This first option starts with a local breakfast around 07:30 am, before heading towards the sector of Cerro Peñihue. There, you will start trekking for about 4 hours to Mirador and Rociñ, where you will have lunch (picnic). Around 14:00 (2:00 pm), you will start your descent and it will be the end of this tour.
Day 3: Option B: Learn More about the Mapuche community
The second option starts around with a breakfast around 08:30 am, before having a talk on ancestral medicine. Then, you will visit a native forest nursery forest and reforestation project, followed by a typical Mapuche lunch. In the afternoon, you will have a practical workshop of traditional loom and another one on ancestral musical instruments. This day and tour will end around 18:00 (6:00 pm).
