Itinerary

Day 1: Participate in Tours, Workshops, and Traditional Games!
Begin your Mapuche cultural immersion experience with a meet-and-greet at Kurarewe Square and transfer to the Mapuche community of Juan de Dios Ancamil. Begin your day at the Inaltuleufu Ruka, a traditional Mapuche home, where your guide will talk with you about Mapuche world view, philosophy, and religion.

From there, you’ll travel to the home of a Mapuche “seeds protector.” Here, tour her ecological medicinal plants garden to learn about Mapuche traditional medicine.

Enjoy lunch at Elisa Restaurant, Kurarewe’s most well-known spot for locally-grown, traditional Mapuche fare.

After lunch, you’ll travel to the shores of the Trankurra river to participate in a weaving workshop. Here, you’ll weave vegetabal fibers on a traditional loom! You’ll be guided by female Mapuche artisans from the community.

In the evening, you’ll return to the Inaltuleufu Ruka for a game of palín. A young Mapuche palife will explain the history, technique, and cultural value of the game, and you’ll have plenty of opportunities to play!

Later, transfer to the guesthouse for a late dinner and to rest for the night.

Day 2: Hike in a National Park and Learn from Master Artisans and Herbalists
Today will begin with a traditional Mapuche breakfast in the guesthouse. From there, your guide will take you hiking Villarrica National Park. The park boasts caves, lush forests, rivers and lagoons, and the imposing Villarrica Volcano. Enjoy spectacular landscapes and abundant biodiversity throughout the morning.

After your morning in Villarrica National Park, stop at a small handicraft workshop where a local artisan will demonstrate her loom-work and the natural dying process of wools. You’ll have the opportunity to encounter truly masterful pieces of art, and purchase a piece if you choose.

For lunch, travel to the community of Camilo Coñuequir Lloftonekul. Here, you’ll enjoy traditional ingredients and plenty of local culture.

In the afternoon, visit a medicinal plants garden where a well-known holistic/herbalist doctor will provide a class on the medicinal use of  herbs.

To end your Mapuche cultural immersion experience, you’ll have the opportunity to choose between relaxing in nearby hot springs or hiking the surrounding forests. In the evening, you’ll make your return trip to Kurarewe.
