All of downtown Rio de Janeiro is a historical and cultural center, but few places are as rich or significant in history as Little Africa. They say that samba, soccer, and Rio’s bohemian lifestyle can all trace their Rio’s to the port area’s Little Africa neighborhood. Rio’s port was the last slave market in the Americas to close and the African slave population that worked there had a heavy influence on the culture of the city. You will also see other parts of Rio’s historic downtown, including awesome architecture, cultural centers, and street art.
