On this Lomas de Arena Half Day Tour, discover a nature lover’s paradise less than 12 miles away from Santa Cruz. This small protected area is perfect for both birding and sandboarding, as the park includes lush forest habitat and towering sand dunes. On your tour, you’ll also learn about the infamous Palmasola prison. Marvel at the unique landscapes as you traverse the park by 4WD and on foot. Then, have a blast sandboarding with our specially-designed boards!

Start and end location: Santa Cruz
First, you will be picked up at your hotel in Santa Cruz. You can choose between the morning tour, with 8:30 am pickup, or the afternoon tour, with 14:30 pm pickup. Then, you will be driven towards the protected area of Lomas de Arena. Along the way, your guide will tell you all about the most infamous prisons of Santa Cruz and their dark history. The Pope and Hollywood actor Sean Penn have visited these prisons.
Next, you will enjoy a 4WD journey through the park. Keep you camera at the ready, as sloths are common there. Then, you will hike for about 2.5 hours to the sand dunes, some of which reach heights of 40 feet (12 meters)! You will get to go sand boarding down the dunes. After a fun time sand boarding, you will be dropped off back at your hotel.
