The Xunantunich Mayan Ruin was the first ancient Maya city re-discovered in the modern era, the name “Xunantunich” means “Maiden of the Rock” and it refers to the local legends of a woman in white who haunts the temple. This temple was seemingly constructed to house the remains of what it’s believed to be the king of the legendary Snake Dynasty that once dominated southern Belize, this is very interesting since there is not much information about this Dynasty. This is one of the many reasons you would want to explore this amazing ruins.
