Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary
Explore Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, one of Belize’s most spectacular parks, starting at the Caribbean coast and going all the way to the base of the Maya Mountains, this park is famous not only for its amazing flora and fauna but for being the only nature reserve in the region where jaguars are still free to roam.
The Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary has so much to offers travelers, here we will see tropical birds, spectacular waterfalls, mountain views, old growth forests, and abundant wildlife like tapirs, deer, and monkeys. We can also find hundreds of species of colorful butterflies, amphibians, and reptiles.
This reserve is one of Belize’s most important areas because of the booming biosphere where exotic plant species and endangered animals can blossom in the perfect environment.

08:00 am hotel pickup and we get ready for a 2-hour drive through the beautiful Hummingbird Highway
10:00 am at the entrance to the sanctuary lies a traditional Maya village where locals proudly display their herbal gardens, corn mill, and homemade items made by the Women’s Craft Cooperative.
10:20 am a brief orientation and we will get the chance to see the original cages that Alan Rabinowitz, the founder of the reserve, built to house animals.
10:30-11:30 hike along a well-marked trail. Your guide will point out interesting animals and plants along the way, including an abundance of exotic birds. At the end of the hike, it will be time for a delicious home-cooked lunch.
12:00 board inner tubes and flow down the lovely South Stann Creek River
12:30 Once back on land, it’ll be time for a quick hike to an amazing waterfall. Participants can enjoy a refreshing swim underneath the waterfall

14:00 hike back to the starting point to board vehicles and head back to your hotel
