Begin your Rural Salta and Cachi Tour with 7:00 am hotel pick-up in Salta. Leave the city heading south on Route 68 along rocky landscapes and long stretches of farmland.
Soon, you’ll turn west and begin your trip into the Andes. Here, the landscape will open up to reveal spectacular terraced hillsides, towering mountains, and plunging gorges. Explore the Quebrada de Los Laures gorge and keep your eyes up for the mighty Andean Condor flying high overhead.
Continue your journey along the famous Cuesta del Obispo road, that snakes along the mountainside providing unmatched views of the imposing mountains and rock formations. The road will lead you the El Valle Encantado or the Enchanted Valley for fairy-tale like landscapes. From there, begin your ascent to the Piedra del Molino, rising 11,400 feet (3500 meters) above sea level, and boasting stunning panoramas of the surrounding hills and valleys.
Pass through Los Cordones National park to reach the small community of Cachi. Here, you’ll trade the sub-tropical climate of the valley for a high desert. Enjoy lunch, then explore the colonial community before heading to the Cachi Archaeology Museum to discover the region’s ancient history.
