Day 2 – From Obera to Jesuit Ruins and Iguazu Falls
After breakfast, a private shuttle will take you on a 4-hour journey across the province of Misiones to Puerto Iguazu. On the way, you will stop at the San Ignacio Mini Jesuit Ruins. Built in 1632, these ruins have been recognized as a Unesco World Heritage Site due to their historical importance. Built for the colonization of the natives in the area, the ruins were abandoned by the Jesuits in 1767 when they were forced to abandon the continent. Lost in dense vegetation, the remains were discovered in 1897, but weren’t restored until 1940.
To this day, the ruins are still surrounded by dense vegetation. The area’s mystic make-up will give you the opportunity to learn more about the history of the native inhabitants of Misiones and their past.
(Note: The guided visits to the ruins are only offered in Spanish).
From here you will continue to Puerto Iguazu.
This small and charming town is the gateway to the impressive Iguazu Falls, (which have recently been declared as one of the New Seven Natural Wonders!), making them a must see destination for any traveler visiting Argentina.
Upon arrival, you will be taken to your hotel at which point you will have the afternoon to relax and enjoy the warm climate and jungle setting.
