On this 4-day biking tour, you will get to see all the fantastic landscapes of the Calchaqui Valley. There’s so much to see in the Calchaqui Valley and this region of Argentina and the best way to see it is by bike. Take the time to appreciate the beautiful surroundings as you travel to a national park, an archaeological site, various villages, and narrow gorges. Join us for 4 days of unforgettable biking fun!

Itinerary

Day 1 – Drive to Piedra del Molino and Cross Cardones National Park By Bike
After breakfast, you will start your Calchaqui Valley biking tour by taking a truck to the south of the city. You will arrive to the village of El Carril, which produces Virginia tobacco. From there, you will enter the Escoipe Gorge. After climbing the Cuesta del Obispo (Bishop Slope), you will come to the Piedra del Molino (10,984 feet / 3,348 meters). There, you will first get on your bike to cross Cardones National Park. You will bike for 32 miles (52 kilometers) across Payogasta to arrive to the village of Cachi (7,480 feet / 2,280 meters) to spend the night.

Day 2 – Complete Two Circuits: Pailas Inside and Airport and Cemetery Circuit
After breakfast at the hotel, you will do two biking circuits around Cachi: the Pailas Inside and the Airport and Cemetery Circuit. For the Pailas Inside, you will go towards the highest mountain in the area, Nevado de Cachi (20,931 feet / 6,380 meters). Next, you will get to Cachi Adentro and go to the archaeological site of Las Pailas.

When the archaeological tours end, you will start the Airport and Cemetery Circuit, a total of 34 miles (55 kilometers) to Molinos. You will travel along the right side of the Calchaqui River and stop at La Paya, El Colte, and the way of the Artisans, the birthplace of the handicraft of Salta.

In Seclantas, you will stop to join forces with the other group members and tackle the last hill together. Finally, you will arrive to Molinos, where you will spend another night under the magical Calchaqui Sky.

Day 3 – Take a Bike Tour of Molinos and Pedal Through the Gorge of the Arrows
After breakfast, you will go on a city bike tour of Molinos, perfect for taking pictures. After that, you will travel by truck 25 miles (40 kilometers) to the village of Angastaco, along the legendary Route 40. On this journey, you will have the opportunity to capture the best images of agricultural production in the Calchaqui Valleys.

In Angastaco, you will pedal through the narrow Gorge of the Arrows (Quebrada de las Flechas). You will arrive to San Carlos and continue by truck to Cafayate. There, you will spend the night.

Day 4 – Visit Wineries, Bike in a Gorge, and Return to Salta
The last day of the trip starts with a delicious breakfast. Then, you will go by bike to some wineries that mainly produce Torrontes wine. After leaving the village, you will cycle in the Quebrada de Las Conchas, stopping to see all its attractions such as the amphitheater. At La Garganta del Diablo, finish biking and have lunch. After lunch, you will drive back to the city.
