Day 1: Arrival in Ushuaia
Once you arrive in Ushuaia, a representative will greet you and help transfer you to your lodging for the night. You’ll get the rest of the day to leisurely explore Ushuaia, and and get to know some of the local cafes and restaurants.
Day 2: Board the Expedition Vessel & Begin your Journey
Once you’ve checked out of your hotel in the mid-morning, you’ll have a little bit of time to do some last minute shopping and exploring in Ushuaia. In the late afternoon you’ll board the expedition vessel, the Greg Mortimer, and begin your journey to the Beagle Channel.
Days 3 – 5: Crossing through the Drake Passage
The voyage continues into the Drake Passage, where you’ll get awe-inspiring glimpses of the soaring albatross and delicate petrels. You’ll then make your first stop in the South Shetlands. Then, sail down the Gerlache Strait. In this stretch of the journey you’ll encounter the minke whales, crabeater seals, and pack ice that make the region so iconic.
Days 6 – 8: Penguin Colonies in the Lemaire Channel
Over the next few days you will journey through the stunning Lemaire Channel. Once in the channel, you’ll observe the Adélie penguin colonies, visit a scientific research station, and discover historic huts in the region.
Days 9 – 11: Heading North
Throughout the next few days, you’ll head north along the Antarctic Peninsula. During your journey, you get the chance to participate in various shore excursions and adventure activities. And if the weather holds up, the journey may include stops in Paradise or Neko Harbor, gentoo penguins at Cuverville Island, as well as up close and personal whale encounters.
Day 12: Second Drake Passage
The final return journey through the Drake Crossing is just as exciting as the first! These final days of the trip are spent enjoying each other’s company, sharing stories and photos from the trip, and celebrating the journey you’ve all made together.
Day 13: Disembark
After a delicious and hearty breakfast, you will bid new friends farewell, and your Anarctica Holidays will come to an end. You’ll start your journey home or continue your adventure throughout South America.
