The Greg Mortimer, a state-of-the-art expedition vessel, is ice-strengthened to deliver us safely and comfortably to our destinations. Day 1: Punta Arenas
Upon arrival in Punta Arenas, transportation is provided to your downtown hotel. The rest of the afternoon will consist of exploring and enjoying the vibrant and historic seaport on the Strait of Magellan at your leisure.
Day 2: King George Island and Boarding
Our Antarctica Exploration adventure begins with a scenic flight to King George Island, Antarctica. Upon arrival at King George Island, we will board Zodiacs (water transportation) to be transferred to our expedition ship, the Greg Mortimer–a world class expedition sanctuary.
Days 3 – 4: Sail to Antarctic Sound
The Antarctica Exploration journey continues by sailing to the Antarctic Sound, which is the entrance to the mesmerizing, ice-filled Weddell Sea. You will spend a day full of adventure as we come upon potential landings at the penguin-rich Gourdin Island and Brown Bluff.
Days 5 – 7: Seymour and James Ross Islands’ Fossil Fields and Paulet Islands
As we make our way into the Weddell Sea, we will visit the Seymour and James Ross Islands’s fossil fields and Paulet Islands. The Weddell Sea is known as a kingdom of ice, which is made up of tabular icebergs, fossils throughout the desert landscape, orcas hunting seals, and penguins along the shore.
Days 8 – 11: Explore the Antarctic Peninsula’s West Coast
Today, our expedition takes us to the Antarctic Peninsula’s west coast. At the Peninsula, also known as Antarctica’s most accessible playground, we will get the chance to enjoy the soaring, ice-clad mountains, mirror-smooth waterways and wildlife. Our adventure will continue with excursions to Astrolabe or Enterprise Islands, Port Lockroy, and then Paradise Harbour.
Day 12: Cross the Drake Passage
While crossing the Drake Passage, we will be surrounded by the marvelous, soaring wildlife, like the albatross and petrel birds. Our vessel will provide a safe and warm environment as it eases the travel through the famous Drake passage–whether we experience the “Drake Lake” or the “Drake Shake.” We will then celebrate our extraordinary voyage as we enter the Beagle Channel.
Day 13: Disembark in Ushuaia
On day 13, we will disembark and head for our flights after a delicious provided breakfast.
